14/48 UK and Attenborough Arts Centre, are thrilled to announce that they will commission a new piece of writing for Christmas 2022.
This commission is open to veterans of the 14/48 Theatre Festival, giving a writer £3000 to write a new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, to be performed as a Theatre Anonymous production (more information below). We actively champion and celebrate diversity in all its forms. We positively encourage disabled people, neurodivergent people, African Diaspora people, South, East and South East Asian people or people from ethnically diverse backgrounds to apply.
What is Theatre Anonymous?
Theatre anonymous sees a recognised story presented to an audience as a one off performance where nobody knows the identity of the cast, not even the cast… A director and small team of rehearsal assistants works with each actor on a one to one basis, keeping their identities secret. On performance night, the cast attend as audience members, and all audience are invited to come in suitable costume to fit the theme of the play. Each actor is then revealed as their character’s first line comes up, entering the stage form the audience to slowly build our company across the piece. What results is a unique experience, with actors truly living in the moment, responding to the character’s around them and finding surprising moments of theatre magic.
Previous productions include ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ (14/48 Projects Seattle) and ‘Up N Under’ (14/48 UK).
