Yes. Directing, design and band.

What are you doing for this 14/48 festival?
Design and acting.

What’s your experience been like so far?
Cracking. Tiring. Stressful. Wonderful. Amazing. Fun. Designing was some of the most fun I’ve had at 14/48 because of the team and the mental atmosphere. It’s really good fun because you’re involved in all the plays and creating all of them.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about getting involved next time?
Be ambitious but know your limitations. Don’t be afraid to make big bold choices because there’s enough support and talent that you can do anything. Hold on a minute, I’m being beavered. (He has something very large and odd attached to his back, and that’s all I’ll say.) There’s enough support and talent that you can bark with the big dogs. Or go big or go home. One of those. I don’t know. Make it sound like I’m cool.

Would you rather talk like Jar Jar Binks or talk like Jar Jar Binks?
Neither. I wish he would die in a fire.

If you had to describe your 14/48 experience so far in no more than three words, what would it be?
Four or three? …Wait, are those my three words?

What are you doing for this 14/48 festival?
I’m writing.

What’s your experience been like so far?
Really good. Seeing the process from the start transform into a whole show complete with actors and the set and the technical elements is great.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about getting involved next time?
Do it! Absolutely the maddest weekend you’ll ever have. It’s really nice to work with the community to achieve something. Relationships and friendships are built so quickly over such a short space of time and for me, as a writer in the company of so many other writers who have different ways of working, it really influences and helps you become better.

Would you rather talk like Jar Jar Binks or look like Jar Jar Binks?
Definitely talk.

If you had to describe your 14/48 experience so far in no more than three words, what would it be?
Insane, creative and sleepless.

2014’s Christer Award winner – ladies and gentlemen, we’re in the presence of 14/48 royalty.

Have you been involved in 14/48 before?
Yes. Would you like to know how many times? (I say yes, Charlotte dashes off – her chocolate curls dancing along behind her – and briefly disappears into the 14/48 horizon. She returns with her lanyard and all the 14/48 badges she’s collected.) It’s my seventh. I’ve directed, acted, designed and blogged. And I’m going to be going to Seattle 14/48 soon where I’ll be directing!

What are you doing for this 14/48 festival?
I am virgin band. I was voted in as band leader, despite never having been in band before!

What’s your experience been like so far?
Stressful. Wonderful. Inspiring and empowering. When I’m doing things for people and saying, ‘Yes!’. That feeling. Insert appropriate adjective here.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about getting involved next time?
Don’t even hesitate. Just put your name down. Even if you think you’ll be the least talented musician in the band, which I did. Which I am. (This is a lie – she sounds soulful, mysterious and smooth.)

Would you rather talk like Jar Jar Binks look like Jar Jar Binks?
Look. Because then I would be slim and could fit into Topshop clothes.

If you had to describe your 14/48 experience so far in no more than three words, what would it be?
To quote Dave Pitt, ‘AWESOME. AWESOME. AWESOME.’

Have you been involved in 14/48 before?
Yes. Acting.

What are you doing for this 14/48 festival?
Acting.

What’s your experience been like so far?
SO MUCH FUN. LIKE, SO MUCH FUN. I was a turkey yesterday. I never thought I’d say so many gobble gobbles in one day. And today I’ve got a great script written by Dave Pitt. It’s so fun. Just really, really fun. I’m tired as shit but it’s all good.

Give us a little snippet of what your play is about.
It’s set in Narnia, I can say that much, and it’s after the end of the last books. I think. I don’t really know Narnia. But it’s summer and my character falls into it by accident and accidentally starts… No, I won’t say that…. Meets some… interesting characters…

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about getting involved next time?
DO IT. Like, you’ll wake up on the morning and wonder why the fuck you did it, but put that aside because everyone’s in the same boat and they’re all really supportive. It’s a great laugh so do it. Basically. JUST DO IT.

Would you rather talk like Jar Jar Binks OR look like Jar Jar Binks?
Oh god that’s a hard one. I don’t know because I’m pretty fucking smoking. Ha ha ha. I’M JOKING. I’m joking… Ahem… I think it would have to be… Ughhh… Look like him. No. I don’t know. That’s a hard one. I’m gonna say for the meantime look like him.

If you had to describe your 14/48 experience so far in no more than three words, what would it be?
(Starts laughing somewhat menacingly – I think the fatigue may have made her delusional) SO MUCH FUN. In capital letters.

Kirsty shows us how to eat a Greggsnut while still looking flawlessly fit.

Have you been involved in 14/48 before?
I have! I have been an actor twice and designee twice and now I’m a writer person.

What are you doing for this 14/48 festival?
Writing.

What’s your experience been like so far?
(Through a mouthful of delicious, delicious Greggsnut) AWESOME. I’ve not had enough sleep and I think it’s probably been my most exciting 14/48 experience thus far in my 14/48 career. What’s great about it this time around is that when I was an actor it was solid hours of being stressed. Being a writer is similar but because it’s all written down, it’s safe and I know I won’t forget my lines because someone else has to do it. Then I hand it in and get excited because I get a director and then I get excited about the actors.

Give us a little snippet of what your play is about.
Oh god. Um. Tor…ture…? I think? (Nervous laughter) I looked into something called the Genovese Syndrome, which is also called the Bystander Effect. It’s something I’ve wanted to write about for a while since A Level and now I’ve found a way of doing it. It’s like… torture and… that… yeah…

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about getting involved next time?
DO IT. Um. Ugh, I just got to the caramel bit… (Of the Greggsnut) Alison (Dunne), who’s currently directing, is a writer extraordinaire and her advice was to write ageless and genderless characters. Giving yourself very open rules is very useful because you don’t know what your actors are going to look like or what their style is. I’ve just been writing things that amuse me and I think very visually, so don’t be worried about writing something in that might seem unachievable. Yesterday I had a monster made out of pooh. The design team can handle it so yeah. Essentially, more pooh monsters!

I kind of apply to both. (That’s a lie) I think talk. I’m not that not far off (also another lie) and I still get to keep the curly hair. That’s good enough for me.

If you had to describe your 14/48 experience so far in no more than three words, what would it be?
Confidence building.

Today is the second day of The 14/48 Festival, The World’s Quickest Theatre Festival, at The Y Theatre, Leicester!

This evening you will see 7 new plays that have been written, rehearsed, designed, scored, lit and performed in just 24 hours!

Last night we picked the theme for this evening’s plays from suggestions submitted by our 8pm audience – the theme that was chosen was No Pain, No Gain!

The seventh and final No Pain, No Gain play this evening will be Bystanders by Kirsty Mealing which is being directed by Emily Breden!

The actors who will be performing Bystanders this evening will be Nicola Bellinger, Stacy Levy, Rebecca Newman, Doug Deans and Anthony Morgan!

We hope you can join us for Bystanders and the six other new plays being performed this evening, we have shows at 8pm and 10:30pm this evening!
